About Giudecca

The garden of Venice

On the Giudecca, you can still experience the authentic Venice. Back in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, Giudecca was the garden of Venice.

Some of the nobles had their palaces here, but the rest was gardens, orchards and monasteries. In the 19th century Giudecca was industrialized and a lot of craft shops and factories were set up. In the late 20th century the area was rather run down before a gentrification process started in the 1990s and the seemingly genuine and charming Giudecca we know today became a reality.

Exploring Giudecca

is exciting, a mix of medieval and later palaces, industrial history, and very modern blocks of flats. Restaurants and bars on the Giudecca offers everything from pure luxury to simple everyday delights: Do as the locals and take a stroll up or down the fundamenta, and you will find the very best bakeries, butchers, bars, restaurants and cafes. Within minutes you can choose between several restaurants, from the cheaper local trattorias to the legendary Cipriani, Harry's Bar Dolce or the Hilton hotel Mulino Stucky.

200 meters walk from our flat you have a Coop, where you can buy all the groceries and fresh meat and vegetables you need. We have of course a 'carello' - a trolley - that all Venetian households have so that you easily can get your purchases back to the flat.

Interested in a tour-guide?

We are in touch with a local guide who lives on the Giudecca. She offers tailor-made walks around Venice, focusing on daily life, hidden treasures and and culture. She speaks fluent English, Italian or Norwegian. Let us know if you are interested - dependent upon availability.

Interested in a local chef?

We can put you in touch with two local chefs that cater for down to only one person - brought to the apartment. They use local ingredients of high quality, all organic. Perfect when you don't feel like going out and don't want to cook either... Dependent on availability.
